2007 Electoral Registration Canvass
Freephone or Online Registration Return
Once again residents in Ayrshire
will be given the opportunity to use a FREEPHONE service to confirm
their electoral roll details, and we are also providing the
Internet Registration service again for this years annual
canvass.
The service will be available 24 hours
a day 7 days a week throughout the canvass period and can be used
by households where the names on the electoral register remain
unchanged from the previous year. In Ayrshire this relates
to approximately 65% of all households.
A registration form will be posted to
every residential property in Ayrshire during September listing the
registration details held by the Electoral Registration Officer for
that address with full instructions on how to use the FREEPHONE
& INTERNET services. Developed by Electoral Reform Services
(ERS) FREEPHONE & INTERNET registration means registration
updates are immediate and can save your council money. It is hoped
that this additional convenient choice for making the return will
be of particular benefit to the housebound, people living in rural
areas and of course busy households wanting to save time.
The FREEPHONE & INTERNET
registration system also allows everyone to add or remove their
names from the edited version of the register used by mailing
companies. The system also allows users of this method of response
to request a postal vote application form.

Registration Officer for Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board, urges
households where the registration details remain unchanged to use
the FREEPHONE or INTERNET service. He adds “over 60,000
households successfully used this service last year and when you
pick up the telephone or logon via Internet and follow each prompt,
making the return is very simple”.
The introduction of the FREEPHONE
number and INTERNET Service is a further step forward in making
life easier for the general public and keeping accurate electoral
roll records.
