Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, which came into force on 1 January 2005, gives you the right to access information held by Scottish public authorities, including Assessors and Electoral Registration Officers.
Publication schemes must specify the classes of information which each authority publishes or intends to publish, detail how it publishes the information and indicate whether information is provided free or for a charge.
From January 2005, any written request for information to a public authority is regarded as a request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act. You do not have to quote the Act, but you do have to make the request in writing either by correspondence, fax or e-mail.
