Absent Voting

There are alternatives to voting in person at the polling station, these are known as Absent Voting and form two main styles.

  • Voting by Post – This is where your ballot paper(s) will be sent to you in advance of polling day and must be completed and returned before the close of poll.
  • Voting by Proxy – This is where you appoint someone you trust to vote on your behalf.

If you apply for a postal vote now you are not likely to receive your ballot paper until Thursday 27th June, therefore if you are away and not back until after 4th July, then a postal vote may not be suitable for you. An alternative is to appoint a proxy (someone you trust to vote on your behalf) and they can go along to the polling station and vote for you.
