When should I apply for a Postal Vote?
+—The absolute deadline to apply for a postal vote is 11 working days before an election.
For the upcoming UK Parliamentary Election this is by 5pm on Wednesday 19th June 2024.
However depending on when you apply may determine when your postal vote pack arrives for you.
For the upcoming UK Parliamentary Election, you must be registered (have applied to register by the 29th May 2024) and have completed your postal application by the 6th June 2024 to be on the 1st run of postal vote packs which should be distributed on or just after Thursday 20th June.
If you don’t make this run, the next batch of postal vote packs will be distributed on or after Thursday 27th June.

Why can I not apply on line for a postal vote for Scottish Elections
+—The law regarding absent votes for Scottish elections is decided by the Scottish Parliament and there has been no change to the law.

Why do the UK and Scottish application forms require different information
+—The forms reflect the information that is required by the legislation covering each of the UK Parliament and Scottish Elections. Applications for an absent vote for UK Parliament elections are subject to an identity check, similar to that undertaken when you register. Your National Insurance number will be matched against information held by the Department For Work and Pensions. Applications for Scottish Elections only do not require that identity check and a National Insurance Number isn’t asked for.

You may still be able to apply for a UK Parliament absent vote by providing your Electoral Registration Officer with other documentary evidence, which can be provided during the online application process at Apply for a postal vote

Why is a UK Parliament Postal Vote valid for a maximum of 3 years but the Scottish Elections Postal Vote until further notice?
