UK Postal Vote Reapplication Process
The rules in relation to Postal Votes for UK Parliament Elections has changed. There is now a requirement to re-apply for your postal vote every three years.
For many of those with existing postal voting arrangements, these will expire on 31 January 2026.
The Electoral Registration Officer has started writing to those affected. Initially, communications are being carried out by email, using the UK Governments secure messaging service. Emails are sent from dunbartonshire.and.argyll.bute.electoral.registration.office@notifications.service.gov.uk. Where these emails result in no online application, a letter will be issued during May 2025.
In order to maintain your arrangement to vote by post at UK Parliamentary elections, you will need to re-apply before 31 January 2026.
You can apply any time, online at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote
When asked which election you want a postal vote for you should select UK PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS ONLY.
You will be required to provide your date of birth and your National Insurance Number. You will also have to upload a photo of your handwritten signature in black ink on plain white paper.
If you are not able to complete an application using the online service, please contact my office to request a paper application be sent to you.

Your date of birth and signature are checked against the statement you provide whenever you vote by post at an election to prevent someone else from using your vote.
If you are unable to provide a signature or a consistent signature due to a disability or inability to read or write, but still want to vote by post, you can apply for a postal vote without providing your signature. For more information and to find out how to apply in this way, please contact my office on 0141 562 1244.
This does not affect any postal vote arrangement you have for Scottish Parliamentary and Local Council elections should you have one. I will write to you separately regarding your postal vote for these elections.
