UK postal vote reapplication
UK Parliamentary elections – Reserved postal vote reapplication process
FAQs
Why do I need to reapply? – This is due to a change in legislation that came into force in 2022. Postal vote arrangements for domestic electors with a postal or postal proxy vote for UK Parliamentary elections can only be in place for a maximum of up to 3 years.
What happens if I don’t reapply now? – If you do not reapply your postal vote for UK Parliamentary elections will be cancelled on 31 January 2026 and we will write to you at the time to advise of the cancellation. If a UK election is called after that date you will have to vote in person or reapply for a postal vote.
I already signed and returned the form you sent recently, why do I have to apply again? – The signature refresh form you recently returned is only for Scottish Parliament and local council elections. The postal vote reapplication process covers UK Parliamentary elections only. The requirement for both is different. For UK Parliamentary elections, you need to provide additional information such as your date of birth and National Insurance Number which is then matched against a national database to confirm your identity.
Can I apply again at any point after? – Yes, you can make an online application at any point or request a paper application form to be sent to you.
